Savannah Elementary

Savannah Elementary School received the highest rating of "Exemplary" as reported by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) since 2008. The ratings data posted by the TEA tracks the academic achievement of school campuses statewide. The new rating is exciting news for our community!

This achievement clearly represents a success of not only the school as a whole, but of the individual students and parental involvement as well. The setting of personal goals and working toward the individual academic success of each student is a major focus at Savannah Elementary. The school first opened back in August 2006 and 2008 was the first year the school was eligible for rating by the TEA. In only its third year, Savannah Elementary was being honored as the best of the best and looks forward to a bright future by having students continuing to excel in all rating categories. It's an obvious success story, having made great progress in such a short period of time. Michael McWilliams is the Principal of Savannah Elementary, replacing former Principal Rod Southard.

Mr. McWilliams has been an educator for 12 years, with six years as campus leader. He had been the principal at Mitchell Boulevard Elementary in Fort Worth from 2002 until being hired by the DISD. To gain the coveted "Exemplary" status, a campus must have received a 90 percent passage rate in all accountability areas. Less than 10% of the schools in the state reach such an elevated rating. Phillip Huffines, co-owner of Huffines Communities, responded to the great news by expressing his appreciation,"We are truly fortunate to have a school of such high quality right here in Savannah which exemplifies the dedication and leadership of Superintendent Dr. Ray Braswell, Principal McWilliams, all of the teachers and the support staff at Savannah Elementary! "Once again, we in Savannah are extremely proud that our local campus exemplifies the best in education. The families in our community know how important it is to have such a highly recognized campus. When school starts, please take the time to express your sincere appreciation for their achievement. The DISD, local school staff and the students should be congratulated for their exemplary rating. We are all proud of you – way to go Gators!

Navo Middle School

Residents in Savannah enjoy the benefits of excellent Denton ISD schools, where children receive an exceptional education. Savannah offers the convenience of two new state-of-the-art schools right in the neighborhood: Savannah Elementary and Navo Middle School.

Students who currently attend Providence Elementary School and Calhoun and Strickland Middle Schools recently cast ballots for their new mascot of Navo Middle School. Panthers will be prowling the halls! They selected the panther as their mascot; school colors will be black and gold. The logo depicting two snarling panthers has been designed and installed on the basketball court, Principal Shawn Perry said. Huffines Communities™ is working with Denton County to improve and hard surface Fish Trap Road in order to provide an alternate access to the new middle school.

Children are able to attend classes with their friends and neighbors," noted Phillip Huffines with Huffines Signature Communities. "Having extraordinary schools within the community reinforces our neighborhood spirit. Savannah is a neighborhood which is family-friendly and pedestrian-oriented. The schools' architects designed them to be an integral part of Savannah and to blend with the architecture of the community. There are sports fields and playgrounds and the nearby Savannah parks and open spaces. serve as an extension to the campus. It is so convenient to have nearby schools where kids can ride or walk on the trails to and from school."

Braswell High School

Braswell High School opened in August 2016 and is the easternmost high school in Denton Independent School District, serving families from the numerous communities across the U.S. Highway 380 corridor. The school is named after former longtime Denton ISD teacher, administrator and superintendent Dr. Ray Braswell, who led the district during tremendous growth.

The school is designed to serve as a focal point for U.S. 380 families, with flexible features that allow the school to be used for many community-focused events. First-class academic experiences are also a pride of the school, which will feature large classrooms, student/teacher conference spaces and robust technology integration.
